On May 26, my mom suffered a brain stem stroke. I was told that brain stem strokes are very minor strokes, so I believed that she would get better. However, over time, my mom’s condition started to progress and get worse. I learned that a brain stem stroke is incredibly serious and is not a minor stroke. The stroke left my mom’s left side, throat, and tongue paralyzed. She could not breathe on her own and was connected to a ventilator. Her condition worsened, I was advised to move her to hospice care. She passed away peacefully on July 30th. I am reaching out to my social media, KIPP, CA, and Smith fam for help with funeral expenses and helping with sending my mother home. She is from Trinidad and Tobago and was undocumented in the U.S. This was an unexpected tragedy that neither she or I could have saved for.


Cost Breakdown:

My family and I have decided to cremate her and send her to rest in her home country of Trinidad and Tobago. The funeral home charges $1700 for the cremation. Through family support I have $1,000 but I am looking to make up that difference. An additional cost would be her urn which is estimated at $200. The funeral home has also started charging $75 a day since she has been there over a week due to lack of finances. I am hoping to have her cremated on Monday so this would be an additional $375 charge.
