My name is Devin Prokop-Scalf and I am raising funds for my Grandmother's funeral.

Starr had always been a fighter that never ceased to amaze us. In May of 2024, she had a bad fall and was on the ground for over 48hrs before one of her nephews found her. Miraculously, she survived! She made it to the hospital, stayed for a few nights for pain management, made it to physical rehab for about a week, then went home like nothing had happened. And that event had scared us! We had gotten onto Starr a few times to make sure her life affairs were in order. Her father lived to be 100 years-old, and she had just turned 80 in August 2024. I had even said to her, "God willing you live to be 100 as well, that's still only 20 years before the Lord calls you home." But anyone that knows Starr can just hear her say her usual go-to response to everything... "I'm fine, it'll be okay! Everything is fine."

Then what caught everyone by surprise, Starr had a stroke in October 2025. She had just celebrated her 81st birthday only two months prior and was moving around like any other normal day. Thankfully, there was someone around this time to hear her fall again and when they helped her up, they immediately saw the signs of a stroke. She got to the hospital pretty quick by ambulance, so then began the road to recovery.

And we all thought it would go very differently. The speech therapist had come to her hospital room while they were evaluating her to know where to place her in therapy. She was doing really good in repeating words like "Paper" and "Cup", she was also repeating two or three word short-sentences! The therapist then says "Alright, we're going to make this a bit more challenging now. Repeat after me: 'The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog'." and clear as day, Starr says "I don't think so."

She had the whole room laughing, Starr was always such a blessing to be around, she always brought smiles to people's faces.

But after a few weeks of minimal to no improvement at rehab, we knew it was time for her to go home before she went to Eternal life. Starr had passed peacefully in her sleep about 4 days later.

Because of how quick and unexpected everything had happened, Starr had a few things she did not have ready, but that's okay. She lived a selfless life and always looked out for everyone she cared and loved. Now it's our turn but we need some help as we currently do not have the funds for the cremation and funeral.

Goal is to raise $1800 by end of January, then hold services either that last week of January or first week of February. Thank you for taking the time to read the story and for your consideration to help our family in celebrating Starr's life and say our final goodbyes before placing her with her family at the Episcopal Church where her parents and sisters are as well.

Starr Prokop was born to Amos and Lorraine on August 31st, 1944 and born to Eternal life on December 18th, 2025. Starr is preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Lorraine Sipe, her sisters Cherie Dysarz, Amy Sipe, and Bonny Langheinrich, and her granddaughter, Starr. She is survived by her two children, Erica and Cory Prokop, her grandchildren Devin and his wife Erin, James Lisowski III, Jayce, Dominic, and Cory Jr, her great-grandchildren James Lisowski IV, Evie, and Eli, and nephews and other relatives. Starr was born and raised in New Jersey and was a graduate of the Class of 1962 from Whitefish Bay High School in Whitefish Bay, WIsconsin. She dedicated over 30 years as a Customer Service Manager with Walmart. She will be loved and missed by her family and many friends.
