Hello friends,
One of our students at Crescent View West- Sunnyside has experienced a personal tragedy this week. Her supervising teacher Mrs. Cordes has provided some information regarding her student.
Dear L4L family,
Tragedy struck one of my students this week, and I am asking for assistance on her behalf to come together to support her through this terrible time.
Cecilia (Cece) Kennedy came to Crescent View West Sunnyside in 2018; a quiet, strong type who tended to stick to herself, disappearing for weeks at a time, yet still able to turn in credits that she clearly took seriously. She lives with her single, supportive mother and two younger brothers, one of whom has such severe disabilities that their lives essentially revolve around caring for him. Their economic situation is precarious. Mom is unable to work, mostly because of the constant supervision and frequent hospital visits that the son requires. Cece, the eldest, has been trying to graduate, care for her brother (the reason for her disappearing), and navigate the emotional turmoil associated with poverty, frightening medical situations, and the pressure to be an adult while still a child.
Despite all this, Cece is determined to graduate and not let her difficult home life dictate her future...and then I got this message on Google Hangouts that left me speechless. “Good morning. My mom passed away yesterday…”
This leaves Cece (who turned 18 last week) and her two brothers alone. They have to figure out the basics of living, all while taking care of their special-needs brother and trying to finish school. My heart breaks for them. But I want them to know that they are supported by us. Please, let’s come together to help them get through this.
