EDIT Help with funeral costs for Lise Kaminski
Donation protected
My name is Amy Kelly and I am organizing this Go Fund Me campaign on behalf of my Aunt Lise who just passed away from MSA. My Uncle Kris has/had been focusing on the day to day tasks of making sure her last few years were enjoyable, but now he finds himself in the position of not being financially prepared to cover all of the funeral costs.
For anyone who does not know, Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) is a rare neurodegenerative disorder that can cause a multitude of symptoms in any combination including impairments to balance, difficulty with movement, poor coordination, bladder dysfunction, sleep disturbances and poor blood pressure control.
MSA shares many symptoms with Parkinson's disease, such as slow movement, rigid muscles and poor balance.
Treatment includes medications and lifestyle changes to help manage symptoms, but there is no cure. The condition progresses gradually and eventually leads to death.
The progression of MSA varies, but the condition does not go into remission. As the disorder progresses, daily activities become more difficult.
Possible complications include:
• Breathing problems during sleep
• Injuries from falls caused by poor balance or fainting
• Progressive immobility that can lead to secondary problems such as a breakdown of your skin
• Loss of ability to care for yourself in day-to-day activities
• Vocal cord paralysis, which makes speech and breathing difficult
• Increased difficulty swallowing
People typically live about 7 to 10 years after multiple system atrophy symptoms first appear. However, the survival rate with MSA varies widely. Death is often due to respiratory problems, infections or blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolus).
Auntie Lise was finally correctly diagnosed in 2015 (after many bumps in the road) and has been slowly getting worse ever since. She went from a funny, bingo loving, slot machine addict, who worked full time , spent her free time with her husband of 42 years, her 2 sons, and her granddaughter Madison when she could, to now sleeping about 20 hours a day.
Uncle Kris has been able to keep her at home so she is spending her last few weeks comfortably at least. Her hospital bed is set up in the livingroom so she can see everyone when they come to visit.
Everyone who knows her loves her for her caring and easy going personality and she will be greatly missed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated even if it's just sharing this link.
And any messages left for Lise will be read to her during her awake/lucid moments for as long as she is with us.
