Help with Funeral and Tornado Damage
Donation protected
This fundraiser is for hardship resulting from my wife's death and damage to our home and vehicle from a recent tornado.
On January 6, 2024, my wife, Becky Wurst, passed away from heart failure. She had been on hospice for over a year. During this time, I started having my own debilitating medical issues, had an amputation and heart stent, and related and unrelated complications. I lost my job during this time and have been working for Uber, 10 to 14 hrs a day, ever since to pay medical expenses other bills to meet my family's needs. My son, Josh, has been working a full time job while also taking on the extremely difficult task of being Becky's primary caregiver. He has exhausted all leave and savings to help the family and supplement our income. Now we are faced with additional expenses associated with the funeral, including traveling to Pennsylvania for the burial, finding a venue, and making other arrangements.
To make matters worse, our home was struck by a tornado on January 9, 2024, just 3 days after Becky's death. It did extensive damage to our home and my vehicle. While our home owners insurance is waiting on an estimate from the adjuster, we are faced with a $1,000 deductible and have to pay out of pocket for repairs. There's no telling how long it will take insurance to reimburse us. To complicate things further, my vehicle is not drivable due to damage, which means that I'm unable to Uber and have no income until its out of the shop. There's also a $500 deductible for auto insurance.
I've never been one to ask for help and feel sick to my stomach that I have to do so now. But these problems have snowballed to the breaking point, where Josh and I are at a loss with how to manage all the expenses at one time. It's an incredibly humbling and scary experience. Every little bit of assistance or relief makes a world of difference, and any donations would be tremendously appreciated. We always have and always will do our best to pay it forward in the future.
Thank you, and God bless.
