For Our Dad, shaun
I never imagined I would ever have to write something like this.
With the heaviest and most broken of hearts, I’m sharing the heartbreaking news that my dad, shaun, passed away on the 13th September 2026 unexpectedly.
There really are no words to describe what it feels like to lose your dad, especially when you have had no time to prepare for it. One minute he was here, and now we are having to face a life without him. It still doesn’t feel real.
Dad was one of the most loving, down-to-earth and funny people you could ever meet. He didn’t need much to be happy, and he had a way of making us laugh even when we didn’t feel like smiling. He was just Dad — someone who was always there, someone who cared, and someone who always made sure that me and my sister were alright.
That’s the part that hurts the most. Knowing that we can’t pick up the phone and hear his voice, see him, have a laugh with him, or just know that he’s there.
We would give anything for just one more conversation, one more hug, one more laugh.
As his next of kin, I now have the responsibility of arranging Dad’s funeral, clearing his flat and dealing with everything that comes after losing someone you love. Alongside the grief, there are also unexpected financial pressures that I simply cannot afford to manage on my own.
We are asking for help to cover Dad’s funeral costs, travel expenses for me and my sister to travel up North, and accommodation while we are there. We need to be together as a family and have the time and space to say goodbye to our dad properly.
We don’t expect anyone to have to help us, and we know that times are difficult for everyone. But if you are able to donate, even £5 or £10 would mean more to us than you could possibly know. Every single donation will help take away just a little of the financial worry while we try to concentrate on grieving and saying goodbye.
And if you can't donate, please don't feel bad. Sharing this page, sending us a message, or simply keeping Dad and our family in your thoughts would mean just as much.
Dad also had a charity close to his heart, Cancer Research UK. Once all of the necessary funeral, travel and accommodation costs have been covered, anything remaining from the money raised will be donated to Cancer Research UK in Dad’s memory.
Dad, I wish I could tell you one more time how much I love you. I wish I could have one more laugh with you, give you one more hug and tell you that everything is going to be okay.
You were loved more than you probably ever realised, and there will never be another you.
Fly high, Dad. Until we meet again.
We love you, we miss you, and we always will. ❤️
Shaun — forever our Dad.
