Hi, I am Kris, a young queer trans person facing being homeless because of an abusive home dynamic. I fear for my health in staying here and am asking for help with gathering the rest of the funds for my rent so that I can cut ties and be in a safer place as soon as possible.
I moved to Quebec, Canada on a student visa to go to university, which was dependent on my past relationship. I faced five years in this relationship, four of these were living together, during which I suffered emotional neglect and abuse. The relationship began when I was 17, 6 years younger than my ex, so there was a power imbalance from the very start. At times the abuse was due to my identity as a queer and trans person since I came out as nonbinary during my relationship. Much of the other neglect was over the symptoms of my debilitating ADHD, that and the restrictions on my student visa here kept me from being able to keep a job during school semesters.
There were times I was coerced to bear a heavier financial burden than I could afford to, with housing and food being held over my head. Tuition at my school also proceeded to get more expensive over time and my single mother has only been able to cover so much for me.
I have been preparing to move back in with my family in California immediately after my graduation which is at the end of June but, as of today (5/15/23), I am being asked to pay back the last of my rent as I face a growingly hostile environment. I’m asking for help in order to move and ship my things back to the US and find somewhere else to stay as quickly as possible.
Thank you so much.
