Help With Francis' Vet Bills

Donation protected
HELLO! THANK YOU! I was able to pick Francis up early so we more than met our goal! Any excess money will be saved for any future emergencies!

To start by making a long story short: My cat Francis ate a Lily plant and is now in the ICU with vet bills I cannot afford. I have borrowed money so they can begin treatment, but need help to continue his care this weekend and into the future. My roommate bought a Lily, and did not know they were toxic to cats. I did not realize the plant she had purchased WAS  a Lily, so when my cat ate the leaves and threw up yesterday it was an unexpected shock. I have purchased pet insurance for the future, but it will not apply to this current bill. I am Francis' fourth owner and spoil him because I want to make sure that he has an amazing rest of his life, and give him everything that I can. He has been an amazing help to me with my mental health in quarantine and through all of my trials of just everyday life.

Here is the long story:
I am a second year special education teacher who recently moved to an expensive area of the country. I wanted to make sure I put down roots in a good school district where I could stay for my entire career as well as a place where I could raise my children and know they were getting a great public education. Unfortunately, in the united states good public school districts usually means high cost of living. I was okay with this as I used my savings from college to move here, and was depending on my school district's yearly (small but it adds up!) raise as well as my side jobs (babysitting, pet-sitting, dog walking etc). When COVID-19 hit I was able to keep my job, but raises have been frozen for the foreseeable future, and I lost most of my extra income. I have been living paycheck to paycheck during this last year, and at this time have no extra money or savings.

Francis was not a planned kitty. I always wanted a cat, I've loved all animals my whole life and grew up with dogs but my mother was severely allergic to cats. One year for Christmas she got me a robot cat but I think we all know that is not the same! My plan was to live here for a few years and save up money for any emergency such as this one, then adopt a cat. That's not how cats work I have learned, cats pick you not the other way around ;) Francis started as an SPCA rescue in Alabama. My friend and previous roommate's college roommate adopted him. She wanted a cat, but never cared for him. My previous roommate ended up being his caretaker - feeding and watering him, changing the litter, etc. because the person who adopted him essentially would ignore him. So when they moved out, my old roommate took the cat. She had not planned on getting a cat but like I said, they happen to you! Unfortunately, she felt that there was no real choice - she could either take him or leave him with a neglectful owner or return him to the SPCA where he would most likely be put down. So of course she took Francis.
When we were living together I fell in love with Francis and would joke about stealing him all of the time. Then, my roommate got a job offer abroad, which has been her dream since college. She asked if I would like to adopt Francis because she could not take him and how could I say no? I love him and tell him everyday now that I am his only mommy forever. I love him so much, and he has been my rock through quarantine. Long nights with my anxiety and depression, freaking out over the current political climate and the pandemic, and researching monetary options and sometimes new jobs I have always had Francis by my side. It is honestly strange for me to type this without him on my desk, laying on my keyboard and pressing weird buttons.

I am asking for any and all help. I know that this is a horrible situation. I would do anything for Francis, and I had to borrow money last night when I was faced with the choice of paying for his vet care or taking him home where he could die. Anyone reading this far with fur babies knows that this is not a real choice, of course you would do anything for your baby. I love Francis so much and I have always made sure that I spoil him and take the best care of him that I can. He has more toys than he ever could use (of course he likes playing with my makeup sponges and trash better), I put his cat tree in the middle of our bay window so he could watch the birds and squirrels instead of my plants because I don't want him to be bored at work, and he has his own automatic feeder, multiple beds, and his own hand made blankies made by my grandmother! My whole family loves Francis, but I love him most of all. I thank you in advance for reading this far and for considering helping us. Even if you cannot afford to donate, please consider sharing this. I will be eternally grateful.
