Hi, I'm Kate, and this cuddly doofus is Flip. He's kind of dumb, but he's a sweetheart and we love him dearly. On Halloween, we took him to the Emergency Vet because he was acting strangely (and like a child, couldn't possibly do so during normal business hours). Turns out, he had a urinary blockage caused by bladder crystals. This is very, very dangerous for cats and could have killed him in a matter of hours. Thankfully, we were in time, but he's going to be in the kitty ICU for a couple of days at least. He might even end up needing surgery, but I probably won't know until tomorrow if that's the case.

The emergency vet saves lives and we are very grateful for them, but they are also eyewateringly expensive. Flip's estimate lo-high end was $4000-4800 and wow do we not just keep that kind of scratch lying around. We have a Care Credit account holding the high-end amount as a deposit right now, but we only have a year to pay it off before it accumulates interest retroactively. Which is not awesome!
