Fiona is a 5 year old Bernese Mountain Dog who has captured the hearts of every single person she has encountered. Her bright, goofy smile and gentle nature have won her many friends (both animal and human!). Fiona loves people (particularly those who smile at her), heavy snowfall, swimming, other animals, going for walks with her doggy friends, peanut butter, and especially her little (human) brother, 2-year-old Elliot. Fiona adores children of all ages and you will often find her hanging out at a neighborhood playground surrounded by kids, soaking up all the love and attention.
Sadly, during a play session at a neighborhood park early last week, Fiona suddenly cried out and began limping. She was unable to bear any weight on her back left leg. Her dad carried her all the way home (a site to see, as Fiona is a big 90lb girl!). X-Rays taken at the veterinary office the following day showed a full ACL tear (a major ligament in the knee joint). Fiona was given pain medication, strict activity limitations, and a list of recommended veterinary orthopedic surgeons. Her parents were told that in a dog this large, the injury would not heal on its own.
The projected cost of Fiona’s surgery (including all medications, lab work, scans/X-rays and follow-up appointments) is $6,000.
Without hesitation, Fiona’s parents scheduled her surgery ASAP (10/14/2021). I am humbly asking for any amount of support, monetary or otherwise, you are able to spare to help ease the financial burden of Fiona’s surgery on her parents. They have been working hard to save for a down payment on a “forever home” and to pay off student loans. This sudden, unexpected cost is a significant setback for them. Please know that it took quite a bit of convincing and reassurance for her parents to finally allow a GoFundMe to be created on their behalf. They are severely embarrassed at the thought of asking for donations. These are the same people who have always given happily to those around them without question or judgement!
Fiona turned 5 this summer, and for her age/breed, her Veterinarian says she is otherwise extremely healthy and certainly happy. We are so grateful to have her in all of our lives. If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting Fiona, you understand how exceptional she truly is. Our biggest hope is to have Fiona safely back on all four paws, with as little financial burden to her parents as possible.
Thank you for your time and consideration!
