UPDATE 8/16/2023
My mom has quit her job as an in-home daycare to be able to care for Ben on this long road ahead to recovery. Yesterday, Ben was moved to Grand Rapids Mary Free Bed for at least the next two weeks depending on how recovery and therapy go. We learned that he has also broken both right and left fibulas as well as has severe radial nerve damage to his left arm causing him to have no feeling in that arm. The feeling may never return. Unfortunately, he is left-handed. We are also still praying for an arrest to be made in this case. Thank you for your love and continued support.
Hi,
My name is Kendra Kohn. My stepfather was a victim of a hit-and-run in Elk Rapids on Friday, August 4th around 7 pm. He was then airlifted to Munson in Traverse City. He was either retrieving or returning a trash bin (he is a garbage man for GFL) when a black jeep patriot hit him at approximately 55 MPH in a 25 MPH zone. They sped away. The police are actively looking for the suspect and we have good faith that the suspect will be located. My stepdad has a broken right femur, a broken left humerus, and several abrasions and lacerations to his face, neck, and head. He has had two surgeries so far as well. He has a few weeks of recovery ahead of him before he can come home. My mom is self-employed and runs an in-home daycare, she will not be able to work for an undetermined amount of time and I don't want them to worry about their bills during this time. I am asking that if you are not able to donate monetarily, you donate through the power of love and prayer. I will post updates as they become available.
UPDATE: 8/13 he has two broken fibulas, radial nerve damage to the left arm- he is left hand dominant. This means he does not have use of his left hand or arm at all. The orthopedic surgeon said at the one year mark his arm will have healed all that it can. We are praying for the best possible outcome. Thank you all for you continued love, prayers, and support.
