Help with Final & Medical Expenses - John McKirgan

My Mother is an incredible woman.   To know her is to love her, and I only hope to be half the woman that she is someday.   I am writing this on her behalf, without her knowledge.  Because as you know, my Mom will never, EVER ask for help from anyone, even if she truly needs it.   So I have decided to ask for her.  On Friday, we unexpectedly lost my father, John McKirgan.  To have known John was truly an experience and a gift... even if he might currently driving you completely insane (he would be rolling at this)... he was an absolute ONE OF A KIND on so many levels, and he is already greatly missed.  What many did not know, is that Dad came into our lives when I was very young.... not my biological father, but the only father I have known, and my DAD, without question.  He more than filled those shoes, being the only father I had truly known and had in my life, and made it official when I was 13, legally adopting me.  The rest is history, as they say.

Dad had been ill recently, but everyone who knows him knows how impossibly, infuriating STUBBORN of a man he was, and he refused to go get checked out.  Finally on Thursday of last week, she convinced him to go to the hospital, as he could not stand or walk on his own, and had been unable to eat.  Once they arrived at St Francis in Litchfield, IL, they life-flighted him to St. John's in Springfield, IL, where he admitted to the ICU, sedated and placed on a respirator.  On Friday late morning, they helped Mom make the difficult decision to take him off life-support,  as his organs were failing, and there was nothing they could do to help him.  There was simply no coming back from it.

My mom is now suddenly faced with not only losing her husband and best friend (2 days before their 42nd wedding anniversary), she is also now faced with an enormous amount of medical and funeral expenses, which they were completely unprepared for.  To be quite honest and transparent, it is uncertain at this time if the life insurance policy was still current, or if it had lapsed, and she has no idea yet if (or what) any social security survivor benefits will be available.   I am humbly asking you to help me  help my Mom.  Anything is appreciated, even $5 or $10, to take some of the tremendous weight off of her shoulders.  The only thing she should have to face at this time, is learning to be without him.
