I am raising funds for my daughter Katie Jones. She was diagnosed with a severe Chiari I Malformation and Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension recently and will be under going an extensive neurosurgery next month. This is in addition to the Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome she was diagnosed with two years ago. She has also developed a syringomyelia, a common complication of Chiari that can cause paralysis if left untreated.
Katie will undergo a posterior fossa decompression, a C1 laminectomy, duraplasty and cauterization of cerebral tonsils to relieve pressure on her brain stem which is causing excruciating headaches, weakness, fluctuations in blood pressure and heart rate, vision problems and lightheadedness.
It is hopeful that this surgery will alleviate her symptoms or at the very least stop the progression. The full results of the surgery will not be known for at least 6 months. She has a long recovery ahead of her. She and her young family (husband Aaron, daughters Ellie-8 & Aurelia-3 and son Adrian-1) have already moved closer to her specialists at the Cleveland Clinic and extended family. She is expected to be hospitalized for 5-6 days. She will be on bed rest for two weeks and then have limited activity for six additional weeks.
She is a realtor but has been unable to work due to her illness. They are facing a substantial financial burden with a $10,000 maximum out of pocket health insurance cost. They will also need to pay for childcare for a few months, her husband will miss work. They will need prepared meals, DoorDash, etc..
Please consider making a donation to help ease this strain if you are able. Many hands make light work. Even if it is only $5 or $10, it all adds up. Anything will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
