Help with Expenses for Gabriele Schart's Passing

Hello, my name is Michael Schart, I am Gabriele Schart's eldest son. Tragically, on March 14th, 2024 near Chichimequilles, Mexico, she was robbed and shot dead. She was on her way back to Canada with a friend, four dogs and a cat. The friend is alive and recovering. Three dogs are missing. One dog and the cat are at an animal shelter.

Gabriele was a very bright person. Strong-willed. Loving. No matter how hard things got, she found the strength to keep on trying. For the last few years she had been living most of the time in Zipolite. It became her home. Her mother's, my grandmother's, health started to deteriorate recently, and she decided the best way to get back with all her pets was by driving. Her goal was to make it back to London, Ontario in about a week. They were making great time and had made it halfway through Mexico before the tragedy.

She is survived by me, her youngest son Corin, her mother, and her brother.

This fundraiser is to help cover expenses related to the recovery of remains, burial or cremation, legal fees, travel, and accommodation. Later, it will also help to cover costs for memorials both here in Canada and in Mexico. The initial funds will be to help cover travel costs as I am required to go to Mexico in order to claim her remains and sort out her belongings and what will be done with her body.

Our latest goal is $13,500 CAD. We plan on using some of this to help my mother's friend, who had been shot in the arm during the incident. He has medical bills and other things to pay for, and we want to help him with some or most of those costs if we can.

I will try to keep updates as regular as possible. There are no set dates for memorials at this time.
