On October 18, 2021 Eric was in a car accident where he was ejected from the vehicle. He was flown to UMC in New Orleans to be treated at their level 1 trauma center. In the following days Eric had a kidney removed and his left leg amputated below the knee. He has also been diagnosed with a DAI (Diffuse Axonal Injury) level 3 traumatic brain injury. Thankfully the doctors were able to save Eric’s life but he has a long road of recovery ahead of him.
He is currently an 11 on the Glasgow Coma Scale, which is an improvement from an 8 the week before. He will need to be in the range of 13-15 before he can be transferred to a rehab facility where he will hopefully learn to talk, walk and eat by himself again.
We are raising money to help cover Eric’s medical bills and rehabilitation expenses. We believe the driver of the vehicle had no insurance so everything not covered by medical insurance will be out-of-pocket. We will also need to prepare our house to accommodate a wheel chair and other items Eric will need before he goes to rehab and possibly when he returns.
On behalf of Eric and our entire family, we greatly appreciate the outpouring of love, prayers and support shown over the past few weeks and undoubtedly, in the months to come.
