My name is Camille and I created this GoFundMe for my father who is currently suffering from a very severe case of periodontal disease which is causing massive bone loss in his jaw. The cause for the disease is genetic. He has suffered with this disease for a number of years, with zero improvement even with treatment of this disease through recommendations by his dentist. At his wits end, my dad went to see his dentist for a regular routine check-up last week and was informed that the disease has reached its most severe state. The dentist classified this as a medical dental emergency and has recommended that all of his teeth be removed immediately in order to prevent further bone loss and to begin treatment so that implants can be surgically placed.
My father is 56 years old. He is a retired police officer and army veteran with three daughters—two of which still need his assistance for schooling. Because of this, my dad has been working throughout his retirement to be able to provide for his family financially, resulting in his inability to fund the cost of this extremely expensive procedure. My father has insurance however, this type of procedure is not covered. He has also applied to Veteran’s emergency dental programs, but it could take more than a year to find out if he is even approved and his teeth need to be removed as soon as humanly possible. If they are not, he will have permanent bone loss and will eventually develop permanent facial disfiguration.
I decided to start a GoFundMe for my dad, unbeknownst to him, because for as long as I could remember, my father had the kind of smile that could light up the darkest room and make your heart skip a beat. Now, he barely smiles because he would rather not draw attention to his teeth, that you can see in the x-ray, are falling out of its sockets. I know that this is a large amount to ask for, but if you are able to help, every penny counts. I just want to be able to help my dad, who has always been the kind of person to give people in need the shirt off of his own back.
