This is my Story (Edwin Perez)
My journey began back in 2014-2015. I was a strong hardworking man, provided for my family with no hesitation. However, one day it all came down, I went to use the bathroom, and noticed a spot of blood, I called my provider to schedule an appointment after which time, I was sent for test, and it all came down to me have Cancer, the one thing that no one wants to hear, the silent killer that comes and destroys a person world, from here I was sent for me testing at hospital at which time the first hospital when they did confirm that it was Bladder Cancer, I was alone when all of this was told to me, as my wife was home due to an injury she had sustained and couldn’t accompany me. This doctor had no bed side manners, he told me yes, I had the Cancer and only had 5months, my world and my thoughts went dark, confused and taught what was going to happen to my family, what was I going to do, I taught and told this doctor that I wanted/needed a second opinion pertaining to my diagnosis. The doctor was not happy to hear my decision of wanting a second opinion; however, I insisted.
I was referred to an Oncologist over at Pioneer Valley Urology, in Springfield. We were great by this doctor, he sat us done, and went over his file, Edwin discussed everything that was said at his first doctor visit, and this doctor at Pioneer said, you know there is a new testing over at Lahey in Burlington, Mass, run by Dr. Libertino, where the Bladder can be removed and using the person intestine a New Bladder is created and called a Neobladder. We were excited to hear that there was some hope, we started this journey at Lahey, long trips for both appointments and then his major surgery, it was tough as his body was going thru some changes of adjusting, as this Neobladder (pouch) is inside his body. After all this and continuous treatments, we were blessed to get until this year, that once again, Edwin fell ill, he was taken to the Hospital were once again, they saw little things in his lungs, bones and in the brain.
Which everything after careful treatments turned out to be Cancer after over 11years, keep in mind he was told he only had 5months. Now he is receiving Damour Treatments of both Chemo and Radiation, and it is a tough road ahead, with the financial strain of trying to keep up with all the bills that have been coming in and the coverage I currently have doesn’t cover everything.
My family and I could use the support of family and friends, and those able to help doesn’t matter what, just to be able to not have this burden on top of focusing on my help. Note that when he was first diagnosis, he did receive his rounds of Chemo as well, and at which time he was receiving treatment he was still working, until he had a major heart attack and didn’t know this, and he had to get a stent placed.
This is a long journey that I will be having and hoping that I am able to get this dormant again and given an opportunity to live another 10years if God allows me too.
Please help if able too. Thank you for taking the time in reading my story.
Appreciate everyone: Edwin Perez & Family.
