Dozer's Surgery

Donation protected
Hi my name is Madison and on early Wednesday morning (2/2/22) my worst nightmare happened. My dog, best friend, and absolute rock Dozer was struck by a car outside of the farm I have my horses and do morning chores at to help pay board. Luckily the driver stopped and got our attention, but it took over 20 minutes (which felt like an absolute eternity) to find Dozer and I thought the worst, that he had run into the woods to die. Luckily someone saw him standing at the top of the neighbor's driveway and when he finally saw me, he came right to me. Having a quick look at him, he had little road rash due to wearing his jacket which covered the majority of his body and was toe touching on his left hind leg.

As I have previously worked in a veterinary clinic, I knew there could be internal damage not seen by the naked eye. I immediately brought him to Maine Veterinary Medical Center in Scarborough to have him admitted. Due to current health precautions of COVID, I was unable to go in with him. After the initial work up, the attending Dr. came out let me know that Dozer had air in his chest cavity and a bi-lateral SI luxation of his hips. His blood work and all other signs were thankfully normal and very healthy, which makes him a prime candidate for surgery to repair his pelvis. While never a guarantee, the surgery will provide him with an easier recovery period, quicker return to everyday life as the barn dog he loves to be, and a higher likelihood of not having early onset arthritis or discomfort later on in life. I haven't been able to see him since dropping him off, which has been an added stress as everyone that knows me knows he is my shadow at all times.

The current estimate for his critical care and invasive surgery is between $10,000-$12,000. I do have the funds in my savings to cover this, but it is a huge financial hardship and any help would be beyond appreciated. I would also like to say anything above and beyond the costs of his care will be donated to another pet in need like Dozer.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Madi and Dozer
