Help with Derrick's Recovery and Medical Expenses

My friend and colleague Derrick Banks has had an ongoing battle with a serious infection and was recently admitted to the hospital. After exhausting all the other options, he and his physicians had to make a very tough decision to amputate part of his right leg and right foot in order to save his life. Derrick is affectionately known as "D-Banks" or "Banks" to his friends and family. He is a caring father to his 13 year old daughter, and a loving son and caregiver to his 72 year old elderly mother, who suffers from multiple medical conditions and has lived with him for the last 15 years. Banks is the sole-provider for his mother. Sadly, due to his injury, he will be out of work for some time while he recovers.

Unfortunately, Derrick does not have health insurance. Not only are the costs of the surgery and prosthetics high, but more importantly, being out of work means a struggle to provide for his daughter and his mother. I am raising funds to help him with his medical expenses as well as to care for his family while he recovers and is out of work. All funds raised will go directly to Derrick and his family.

While this injury seems detrimental to his livelihood, Banks is optimistic and is praying. He knows that he has a long road ahead of him, and that there will be many challenges ahead of him with recovery and rehabilitation. He is a Minneapolis native and a small business owner and an entrepreneur. He has worked in multiple capacities of the live entertainment industry, marketing, promotion, and security, making sure that guests, fans, and all of you leave safe and with a smile. Additionally, he has worked for years with foundations and charities that serve to aid and assist inner-city youth.
