Help with David Pearson’s future funeral costs

Dear family and friends,

I hope you’ll take a moment to read the following.  I have an extremely hard time asking for help, but feel I am in a situation that warrants it.

Our world was turned upside down by one word that has touched, taken and affected too many lives…cancer. In November of 2019, my husband, David Pearson, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, a terminal Brain Cancer. He was immediately taken in for brain surgery where the surgeons were able to successfully remove a tumor the size of a baseball from his brain. After a time of recovery, he underwent 6 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation to help limit the growth of any remnants of the remaining tumor. David being the man he is, did all of this without many people knowing and without complaint; except for me having to drive him around during his recovery!  If you know David, you know that he is led by his great faith, and has at all times exhibited an attitude of grace, hope and an unwavering belief that his life is in God’s hands. It is his strength and attitude that has helped me weather this storm even in the face of insurmountable circumstances.

Unfortunately, in September 2020, we received the report that his cancer had returned and that there was nothing more that could be done. When our kids asked him as to what he thought about the recurrence of his cancer he replied, “If I beat it, I win and if I die, I win”. These words resonate in me daily, and have been a comfort during this dark season. He has continued to fight his fight and in what would be his last time in the pulpit, he was able to perform the wedding of our son Joel on November 28th. Since that time, David has rapidly declined in health to the point that he is now unable to walk and is on hospice at home. Our children, Ben, Joel and Heather, have been taking turns coming to Spokane to help care for their father and be a huge support for me.

We are now sadly planning for his final arrangements and all the costs that come along with it. I have gone back and forth about moving forward with this call to help as I know that David would not want to burden others with our problem. The truth is, we need your help. My husband’s joy in life has been to build God’s church and help people.   He doesn’t know a stranger, has a kind word to say to everyone, always has a smile on his face and never speaks a negative word. The latter making it hard, since he would never join me in ranting about something! He would give you the shirt off his back weather you asked for it or not! That is just who he is.

So, I humbly ask, that if you know David, if he has ever impacted your life, that you help him now. During this time of COVID and the restrictions that apply to funerals, I can see no greater tribute to this man than to give back to him. David (71) is my best friend, the only man I have ever loved, my husband of 48 years, father to our 3 children, grandfather to our 4 beautiful grandchildren and a spiritual father to countless others.  Today he said with what little voice he has left that he wants to go home now. We would greatly appreciate any help you can give as we go through these final days, cherishing every moment until the end.

Thank you in advance for your consideration. We love each one of you, Susan
