Help With Daniel's Brain Tumor
Donation protected
Please pray for my little great-grandson, Daniel. He's in the children's hospital. They determined that his brain has a tumor. They have not told us yet if it's hard or soft, cancerous or not. They will likely either treat it with chemo or surgery. We believe it’s in an area of the brain that is seldom cancerous. We are all very concerned.
Daniel went from being a very cheerful, happy wonderful, little, boy to a little boy who slept all the time. He would sleep all afternoon and he even fell asleep in class once, but the doctors were most concerned when we realized his smile looked funny. Only smiling on the left. The facial droop was the reason they sent him to the emergency room.
Next thing we knew was that he was in the Loma Linda children’s hospital in ICU.
Below are a few of the text messages sent out to us by Daniel’s mother, Alison sent out to us;
12-15-2018, The MRI was of both his brain and spine, Doctor said the MRI showed nothing on the spine, just the brain, so we are waiting for the Neurosurgeons.
12-15-2018, Just saw MRI. Pretty scary. Large tumor and deep. Putting pressure on brain stem which is why he is still so tired even after they have relieved some of the pressure. Looks like it starts in the middle and grows out to the left which is why he has weakness on the right. Because of the size and location, his doctor does not think it could all be safely removed in surgery. They sent out some of the fluid they have drained from around it for tumor markers and we are waiting for those results. If they are unable to narrow down what kind of a tumor it is we will be looking at surgery likely on Tuesday so they can get tissue for a biopsy. Depending on the type of tumor we may be able to treat it with chemo or other options. Looks like we will be here for a while
12-16-2018, They moved us to a new room. It’s similar in size to the other room but they offered us the option to move so we could have a window and closet space… Daniel is eating some dinner and feeling pretty good.
12-17-2018, The fluid they tested was not able to give any information about the kind of tumor it is. We will be planning to have surgery. I don't have the details yet but I will let you know when it is scheduled. They need tissue from the tumor so it can be tested and we can make a treatment plan.
12-17-2018, Surgery scheduled for tomorrow at 9 am.
12-18-2018, He just went [to surgery]. Time estimate is 3-6 hrs.
12-18-2018, I haven't seen him yet but they just told us he is finished with surgery and he did well.
12-18-2018, 4:29 PM, We just moved him back to his room. He is doing well.”
We now are waiting for the results of the biopsy and hopefully, they will have a treatment plan.
Joshua and Alison have three other children and of course, they are completely devastated by this turn of events. The additional costs of travel, eating out, babysitters, and everything else, are mounting up and they haven't even started to receive the additional medical expenses. Any gift you can bless them with will help relieve this financial burden.
Please pray for Daniel, his parents, and his family.
So far, friends, family members, and their church have been a blessing at helping out with the additional labor needs.
We hope and pray that God will provide a path for complete recovery. Thank you all for your prayers and support.
