Help with Credit Card debt due to medical bills
Donation protected
Hi...My name is Bernie and I am raising money for my family to help with our monthly expenses.
It was 4 years ago, on November 26, 2019, that I received my first cancer diagnosis. To be honest, the only reason I remember the date is that it happens to be my parents Anniversary (it would have been 73 years…Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad).
An X-ray, taken for an unrelated reason, happened to show 2 dots in my lungs and my doctor wanted to be sure it was nothing. I guess it was something because I received a diagnosis of Stage 4 Colo-rectal cancer with spread to the lungs. 2 surgeries, 35 doses of radiation and at least 100 rounds of chemotherapy later, here I am the day after receiving my 21st dose of chemotherapy for this 3rd recurrence of cancer.
Since then, I have lost my job of 20 years and a new job due to the illness and now am receiving disability. My wife retired from nursing and now works at an urgent care center as a scribe making less than half of what she made.
After draining both of our 401(k)'s and most of our savings, we have been putting nearly all of our expenses on credit cards. We have been able to make more than minimum payments, but not terribly more. We are struggling; the mortgage is getting paid, for now, but the credit card debt is climbing and the average rate of interest is 25%.
The money will go to paying down our debts and hopefully keeping them as close to zero as possible.
This is extremely hard for me to ask, as it was when I signed up for disability. We have always been on the side to give to charity and asking for it is very humbling. If you can help, it will be greatly appreciated. We are trying to get through this struggle and any help would be a Godsend.
Thank you for your consideration whether you can help or not. Wishing you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year, filled with Joy, Love and Laughter.
