Hello. My name is Jim. I'm a 57 year old retired social worker. I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in June 2021. On July 16, 2021 I had 12 inches of my colon removed. I start chemotherapy on August 23, 2021. I am on disability, but to met expenses I earn extra money through self employment as an independent contractor. I haven't worked since the week before Memorial Day 2021 due to this cancer. I've since used up my savings and maxed out my credit card. My disability barely covers my rent, auto payment, utilities, cell phone, food, travel for medical appointments and treatment. If all goes well, I'll be done with chemotherapy around the first of January 2022. At that time I hope to be back working my secondary job. I've been a giver all my life, helped raise a lot of money for local charities and our local Community College. I'm hopeful that all the giving I've done as a fundraiser and social worker will bless me and help me in these times ahead as I battle cancer and balance my life. I feel selfish having to ask others to help me. It's not my style. I give, not take. But this cancer has left me no choice but to ask for help. Thank you.
