Help with Cecil’s life-saving surgery & treatment
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Colleen and on Monday, January 10th, 2022, my dog, Cecil was brutally attacked by another dog as he was outside going potty.
The other dog had Cecil by the neck and was violently shaking him in the air. I was able to rip the other dogs jaws open with my hands which is when Cecil fell to the ground and lay motionless, bleeding, as I watched horrified thinking he was gone, while I held the other dog off of him.
He sustained numerous injuries to his neck, back, chest, abdomen, eyes, and suffered a bruised liver; resulting in elevated liver enzymes. He required emergency surgery for his puncture wounds and a drain was placed in his chest. He has stitches in his neck, back, chest, and abdomen. He is covered in superficial wounds. Both of his eyes were damaged and we do not yet know the extent of that damage or if he will have permanent vision loss.
He stayed overnight in the ICU and was released on Tuesday morning but after only being home for a couple hours, he began wheezing and having trouble breathing. I rushed him back to the hospital, thinking I would lose him in my lap on the way there for the second time in two days.
Cecil was re-admitted to the ICU overnight and for most of Wednesday, into the evening. He was on continuous fluids and IV pain meds and antibiotics to keep him stable. The doctors transitioned him to oral meds in the morning so we could make sure he would be stable on oral meds for a few hours before he came home. I picked him up Wednesday evening and he’s been okay so far. He’s still in pain though and very anxious because we are back where the attack happened.
He will need a minimum of two follow up appointments, one to remove his drain and a second to remove his stitches. Depending on the severity of damage to his eye- he may need a specialist appointment for that as well. He also may need some help after he’s healed dealing with the trauma he went through. He’s already showing signs of severe anxiety so if he needs help, I want to provide that for him.
I am chronically ill/disabled and live in constant pain; because of that, I haven’t been able to work in over 4 years and I’m still fighting to be approved for disability. This means I have no income and thus, this is financially very overwhelming.
I am asking for help financing Cecil’s emergency surgery, ICU stays, and follow up appointments. Cecil is honestly the most wonderful boy in the world. He’s always by my side. He knows when I’m having an extra bad chronic pain day and he’ll push himself as close to me as he can and won’t move for hours. I’ve never met a smarter, more loving, more compassionate, sweeter, more wonderful pup than him.
He means everything to me, he’s my world, he’s quite literally the reason I’m alive. I need him to be okay and I want to do the absolute best by him. Anything helps and I appreciate you even being here reading this so much. Thank you. It means the world to me, and to Cecil.
