Hello everyone,
My name is Cole, I live with my dad as his full time carer. I am currently in a financial situation where it is becoming too difficult to manage. My mum is currently in a care home because she suffers with Alzheimer's with Lewie body dementia, the care costs alone is making it hard to take care of my dad and with the mounting pressure, it is affecting mine and my dads mental health. If you have a couple of quid to spare, it would really help out.
My mum is 71, she loves Daniel O’Donnell and likes to dance. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's with Lewie body dementia in 2019, her hobbies were word searches and knitting. She worked as a security guard until retirement. She was the local schools dinner lady when i was a child. She started becoming violent towards myself and my dad in 2023 and unfortunately the best place for her was a care home with constant care.
My dad is 71 years old, he loves crosswords, Sudoku and 70s music. In his younger years he worked as a civil servant until retirement. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and has had cancer 3 times but is now in remission. He had a pulmonary embolism in 2022 and a heart attack in December 2025. He had to rely on me to help with my mum while he was ill until she went into a care home.
I am 39 years old, I love retro and current games, listening to rock music and watching anime. I have been a carer for my mum full time for 4 years until she went into care and currently a full time carer for my dad. I was at university studying biology but I had to leave the course when my dad got cancer, i needed to look after him and take him to his chemo and radio therapy and didn’t have time for my studies.
Our current financial situation; currently we are in a lot of debt, my mums care home is partly paid for by the local council but ultimately we are paying over £850 per month not including extras that get charged to us. Our water bill is currently over 300 every 6 months and other utility bills which we are behind on because of the care bills and house expenses . I want my mum to have the best care possible, in an environment she feels safe and well looked after, but we are struggling to afford the costs and anything unexpected that is charged by her care home.
Thank you for taking time to read through this, and if you can't spare any amount, I would really appreciate it if you could share this with your friends and family.
Regards
Cole
