Callie showed up at our place a few minutes ago pregnant so we did what we could for her until her kittens were born. Unfortunately she decided not to use the outdoor cat house we had for her and her kittens were born in a more open spot. On her third night with them she was attacked. We found her in the morning with most of the skin on her right paw hanging off, but she'd kept her babies safe.
The emergency vet told us she had to give up her babies to get her wound treated (no nursing while on antibiotics). So we made the very hard decision to give them away so we could get her surgery for her paw. Unfortunately since it'd taken so long to get her in the skin was too shrunken and dead to reattach most of it so they stitched it up and hoped for the best.
We've dealt with bandage changes, soaking her paw in Epsom salt, pain meds, antibiotics, special cat litter, early mornings, late nights for two weeks. Every check-up has been ok but not great.
Now she's in for another surgery to amputate her thumb and hopefully that heals well. We're trying hard to do the right thing and take care of this poor little stray cat that showed up at our door but it's been very costly so we're asking for help.
