This fund will help raise money for Bruno’s medical and travel expenses, who was born with Down Syndrome and requires monthly visits to the doctor and an upcoming surgery on Friday, 1/14/22.
A few years back I was traveling down in Baja California Sur and met Mauricio, Edith, and Hugo. They were the most welcoming and friendly family and invited me into their home with open arms. I started making a few trips a year down to BCS to stay with them and enjoy the beautiful people and places Baja has to offer.
One year ago, they added to their wonderful family and Edith gave birth to Bruno on 8/17/20. He was born with Down Syndrome and immediately required additional medical attention and evaluations. They live about 17hrs south of the border and have to make monthly trips to Ensenada and Tijuana which can cost hundreds and sometimes thousands in travel expenses and medical fees. Each trip is not only costly but also takes away time that they can be earning wages.
Mauricio works multiple jobs to provide for his family. He works as a commercial fisherman, diver as well as for “vigilancia” which is an overnight job watching the radar to protect their local waters and cooperative from poachers. Edith works as a teacher at their local elementary and is at home watching the kids when Mauricio is off to work, sometimes days at a time. I have witnessed firsthand how hard they work to provide for their family. There is no such thing as an 8hr workday for them. I have been commercial fishing with Mauricio from sunrise to sunset, only to see him leave to work overnight at “vigilancia” and back to commercial fishing the next morning.
Bruno has his first surgery on Friday 1/14/22 which will be an Orchiopexy. These funds will help pay for the surgery as well as help with travel costs for follow-up appointments and his multiple therapy appointments in Ensenada a year.
Wages in BCS are extremely low compared to the wages in the US. Some of those wages depend on production (fishing and diving), and variables out of Mauricio and Edith’s control. The first couple of years in a toddler's life are the most crucial to long-term health. Each donation, even if it is just a few dollars, will be a huge help to their family and provide Bruno with the best medical care possible.
Please feel free to reach out to me through GoFundMe with any questions on how your donation will help Bruno and their family. I really appreciate your time!
I will be withdrawing the funds donated to my bank account due to GoFundMe needing a US bank account and Social Security #. I will then wire-transfer the funds to Mauricio and Edith.
Regards,
Gage Hingeley, "Tío Gage"
