Hi, my names Joseph Dishong. I am a very hard worker and sole provider for my family and unfortunately, my fiancé and mother of my children, had to have emergency surgery on Monday March 6th. Nikki Skaggs is an amazing mother partner and person! Shes one of the sweetest people I've ever met in my life! We welcomed our new son Joey on February 20th. At 1st, her healing process from the c-section seemed normal and pretty routine, but by Friday February 24th things didn't seem right. She slowly started to develop a fever and had alot of abdominal pain. By Wednesday March 1st her symptoms had gotten bad enough that we had to call an ambulance. And thank God we did! Her blood pressure was completely out of whack, and so was her heart rate. She also had a fever of 102.5. By the time she reached the hospital, it was determined that she had an infection from the c-section and needed to be transferred, immediately, to the hospital that we had the baby at. She was then rushed to the other hospital and when she arrived she had to be admitted to the ICU. Her blood pressure spiked to 181/100 and her heart rate was 156 beats per minute. Numerous tests were run and it was found that a hematoma had formed in her stomach above the c-section incision. The hematoma then got extremely infected which also infected the surrounding tissue causing cellulitis. She was given 4 different IV antibiotics. One of which was so strong that it blew out 3 veins that she had an IV placed in. The antibiotics were meant to kill the infection and allow the fluid to absorb back into her body. That, unfortunately, didn't happen. Instead her body continued to deteriorate and her skin started to split and the infection started to spill out. The Dr's then decided that emergency surgery was necessary. The surgery was expected to only be 30-45 minutes long, but ended up being over 2 and a half hours long. There was alot more damage done internally than expected. They had to reopen her incision, clean out the infection, pack the incision with this foam and attach a wound vac to the wound. The incision will stay open and have to be healed with the wound vac. The dressing has to be changed by a home health nurse every 3 days. Sadly, this will be a long and extremely painful road to recovery for her. She will need around the clock care. I dont qualify for any form of pay while im out. I have to be here to help the nurses take care of her until shes healed. The biggest challenge we will have is our rent and I've been prepped to miss about 3 months worth of work to help take care of my love and mother of my children. We weren't expecting this type of tragedy after bringing our precious baby boy into the world. We are just extremely grateful that she is alive and made it thru all of this. This isnt something i normally would do but my family is truly in need of any help we can receive. Thank you in advance to anyone who decides to help and please keep praying for Nikki and our family.
