Help with Alex's Medical Bills

Donation protected
A lot of you may be unaware, but our dear sweet boy Alex has been in the hospital dealing with a very serious blood clot issue in his right arm. At the end of August, Alex went to the doctor with some arm pain that had been bothering him for awhile. At that point, they discovered a pretty serious blood clot in his arm, and they admitted him immediately. He was put on blood thinners to help clear up the clot, however after a few days, it was decided that surgery would be the best option. He had a procedure done on his forearm where they did a bypass of his vein in order to restore proper circulation. Unfortunately, overnight, that procedure failed and it didn't restore proper blood flow. This prompted the doctors to perform another procedure, where two vascular surgeons were brought in to harvest a good set of veins from his thigh. Unlike the previous operation, this one was successful. However, a few days later, he developed a large hematoma (pocket of blood) where the veins were harvested, and it resulted in some serious pain and discomfort. This prevented him from sleeping and therefore caused him to hallucinate. The doctors decided to perform yet another operation where they installed a "wound vac" in his leg for drainage. At this point, Alex finally started to feel better and actually got some sleep after two weeks of procedures, and several rounds of tests. He would then spend the next two weeks slowly having his wound vac tube changed to a smaller and smaller size so the wound could start to close and he could be discharged.  The doctors were also monitoring for any more clots that would form in his right arm. If that were to happen, Alex (who is right-handed) risked complete loss of function in his right hand. Fortunately, the blood thinners he was on seemed to help keep any clots from forming, and after a fourth procedure to drain more hematomas, Alex is finally back home and slowly recovering. He has several incisions and staples in his right arm which he's hoping will come out within a week or so, and there's a lot of physical therapy to do. He also has very limited mobility in his wrist, though that should just be temporary.

Alex's diagnosis was Antiphospholipid Syndrome, or APS. It is sometimes known as Hughes syndrome, and it is a rare disorder of the immune system that causes an increased risk of blood clots, among other things. He will be on blood thinners for the rest of his life, however his prognosis is good, and he is expected to make a full recovery - with full mobility in his hand.

Although Alex has insurance, a month-long stay in the hospital along with 4 surgeries and two specialists comes with some hefty co-pays.  Not to mention he's been unable to work this entire time, and he will continue to need physical therapy. The $6,000 should help with co-pays, though that very well may go up as we don't have a final figure yet. I, along with his family, want to help raise as much as we can to help him during this tough time. Anything you guys can do to help I know he'd appreciate. Even if you can't donate, as I know this is a challenging time for all of us, I'm sure he'd appreciate a message to let him know you're thinking about him. I'll do my best to keep everyone posted on his progress.

Thank you all so much!
