I’m Wintre Ward, a National Guardsman who has faced deep loss—losing my mom, dad, and brother—yet I remain committed to serving others. After creating homeless outreach “go bags” and being accepted into nursing school once before, financial hardship forced me to pause my dreams. Today, I’ve been given a second chance with a new nursing program, and I need your help to make it possible. My Journey of Service, Loss, and Second Chances

My name is Wintre Ward, and I have always believed in serving others. For five years, I proudly served in the Ohio Army National Guard. Later, I carried that same spirit of service into my community by creating “go bags” filled with shelf-stable food items, water, hygiene items, and weather essentials for people experiencing homelessness.

But life has tested me in ways I could never have imagined. I lost my mom to breast cancer, my dad suddenly and unexpectedly, and my brother to a tragic accident. Each loss shook my world, but I have continued to hold onto hope and faith.

I was accepted into nursing school once before, but financial hardship prevented me from attending. Then, after losing my job unexpectedly, I also had to pause my outreach efforts for the homeless. Yet through all these setbacks, I’ve never stopped believing in the power of second chances.

Now, I’ve been given that second chance: I’ve been accepted into a nursing program again. Nursing isn’t just a career for me—it’s my calling. It’s the path that allows me to honor my family, continue my service, and turn my pain into purpose by caring for others at their most vulnerable.
