If you know me then you know my dog, Winifred, is my child. She's not just a dog. She's my whole heart and my whole world. As many of you know Winnie has been going through some tough things with her health. If it were me that was sick I'd probably just say "well if it's my time, it's my time." I can't do that with Winnie. She's only 5 and she deserves the best care I can get her.
Where we're at right now: we've done bloodwork 3 times and an X-ray. Her bloodwork has improved but it still needs to get better. When we first did her bloodwork she was extremely anemic. Her red blood cell count was almost 0. It has gone from a 1.44 to a 3.63. It needs to be between 5.84 and 8.95. The vet had wanted to do a blood transfusion but we decided on meds because of the cost. Her white blood cell count is high. 12 out of the 16 things they check for with hematology are out of the normal range. We do bloodwork again on Monday. As of right now we are far from out of the woods.
Her X-rays show either her spleen or liver is enlarged....or worse it could be a tumor. There's a number of reasons why one of these organs could be enlarged but the vet keeps bringing up cancer which is terrifying. Again.... Winnie is only 5. I'm expecting the vet to want to do a CT scan next time we go in to see what the mass on her X-ray actually is. This is going to cost $800. Anything else he wants to do will obviously bring that cost higher.
Winnie also did something to her right knee the other day (I think while going up the stairs). She can't walk for very long at all before she's limping. I'm carrying her up and down the stairs to go potty. The vet is hoping the steroid that she's already on for everything else that's going on will make her knee heal. I hope the damage isn't more severe than we think.
I'm sure all of you know by now I'm self employed. I run a business by myself and live by myself. There's rumors my rent may be going up by $250+ in January. Christmas is coming. We don't have pet insurance. I've been able to afford everything Winnie needs up until now. I'm expecting things to get very expensive in the next couple weeks. If we get lucky and she suddenly gets completely better any funds raised for her will of course still only be used for vet bills.
You all know how important Winnie is to me. I don't think I have to even explain that. We both appreciate any help we get so much. Thank you.
