Hi everyone,
On February 26 my mom, Willy Virgo, suffered a stroke. It was a scary and life changing moment, followed by weeks in hospital and rehab. The cause of the stroke was a brain tumor which was found in 2022, and since that time has led to frequent seizures. Unfortunately surgery has not been an option due to the location of the tumor. The stroke has turned my mom’s world upside down, but she has weathered the challenges with grace and determination and has already taken huge strides on her road to recovery.
The first six months following a stroke are crucial. The quality and consistency of treatment determine how quickly and completely someone recovers. My mom is halfway through that time, and our family has done our best to navigate the complications of caregiving, insurance, medication, setting up home equipment, and hiring aides and physical therapists. Willy’s sister Natalie has taken on much of the day-to-day (and overnight) care and meal prep while working full-time. Help from outside caregivers gives my mom the support she needs and allows Natalie to work. It also comes at a great cost.
Anyone who knows my mom will tell you what a sweet, funny, and caring person she is. She gives so much to her family and friends, and loves being an Oma to her grandkids. She is always the first to help when someone needs her. Now she needs you.
This GoFundMe page was created to support Willy’s recovery. The funds will go towards her immediate expenses including home heath aides, physical and occupational therapy, equipment, medications, and groceries. We are so grateful for any contributions. If you cannot donate, sharing makes a difference too!
Thank you so much for reading, and for all your positive thoughts.
Jenn and family
