Hi, thank you so much for being here and being curious to know me. It’s a very hard thing to ask for support, and I so appreciate you.
It’s a strange thing to realize that I check all the boxes for disadvantaged identities in this country, and although it certainly doesn’t help to be a queer immigrant from North Africa with Type 1 diabetes without a home, to be in America is what is saving my life.
My name is Willow, and I came to the United States 9 months ago to pursue my dreams as an herbalist and tarot reader. My country, Tunisia, is currently in a revolution and now, more than ever, it’s not safe for me to be there because of my queer identity and who I am.
I moved to LA a week ago, and only have another week left to stay on the couch where I’ve been sleeping. After that, I don’t have another place to go.
Because of my Type 1 diabetes, my need is to secure an address and housing so I can register with the medical system and get my emergency health needs handled, as well as have an address to put on my resume so I can apply for jobs.
It’s been such a difficult process to navigate being in a new country alone without any support, and if you’ve read this far, I am so grateful for your time and attention. These aren’t easy times for anyone, and I recognize how vital community support is to get through.
I can not do this alone.
If you have anything you can donate to support me in finding a place to stay, you will be helping me to ensure I have enough insulin for my disability and can get a job to get on my feet.
I won’t hide who I am and will continue doing whatever I need to so that I don’t have to. I want to show others that it’s possible, even in a situation as difficult as mine.
Thank you for being on this journey with me, and offering your support in whatever ways you are able.
My Venmo: @willow-rais
