My family is going through one of the hardest moments we’ve ever faced, and I’m reaching out with a humble and hopeful heart. My dad, Willie McGehee (but he goes by JR), recently underwent major heart surgery and had an LVAD implanted to help keep his heart going. During this already critical time, he also suffered a stroke, which has left him with aphasia—making it difficult for him to communicate the way he once could. It’s been heartbreaking to see someone so strong face so much all at once.

Right now, our focus is on his recovery, his comfort, and being by his side every step of the way. But the emotional weight is also accompanied by financial strain from medical bills, ongoing care, and the adjustments our family now has to make. Disability approval will take quite some time. The funds raised will cover immediate medical bills, insurance, housing, medication, food, transportation, daily needs for a disabled person, possible in-home healthcare, and much more.
