Help Will Battle Liver Cancer #WillPower

Will Campbell is a vibrant, energetic, loving young man with a heart of gold and his passion for life is contagious.

In mid-September, Will noticed a lump on his belly but had no other symptoms. After a doctor visit in October, the doctors suspected an enlarged spleen. However, a CT scan revealed a large mass on his liver. Will was referred to Logan Health Children's Hospital in Kalispell, Montana, for further tests. An MRI and bloodwork confirmed two smaller masses and elevated AFP levels, suggesting a liver tumor. The biopsy results were inconclusive, with the tumor appearing to be a mix of two types—fetal hepatoblastoma and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

After further pathology testing in Colorado and Cincinnati, Will was diagnosed with a very rare condition called hepatocellular neoplasm, not otherwise specified (HCN-NOS), which is thought to be a form of hepatoblastoma transitioning into HCC. Will's cancer is a one in a million, there is not another kid in Montana with this cancer.

Doctors are hopeful they can treat the tumor using a high-risk hepatoblastoma protocol with chemotherapy drugs like cisplatin and doxorubicin. Will began chemotherapy the 3rd week of November, following surgery to place a mediport on the left side of his chest.

The treatment will be ongoing, with weekly overnight trips to Kalispell, and after three months, the goal is to shrink the tumor enough for surgery. The surgery will most likely occur at Denver Children's. After the tumor is removed, 3 additional months of chemotherapy will follow. We are leaning on faith, support, and prayers throughout this difficult journey.
