Our son, William Nicholas Stevens, at the tender age of 3, underwent brain surgery to remove a stage four, malignant, baseball sized, Medulloblastoma tumor. A small sliver of tumor on his brain stem couldn't be removed without risking severe life threatening injuries. There were two nodes on his spine that surgery couldn't help.
We began a life changing journey at St. Jude in January of 2016. William underwent thirty treatments of radiation followed by seven months of chemotherapy.
William was unable to speak, walk, and lost his potty training after his 8 hour brain surgery. God answered prayers, and with help from St. Jude and his therapists, William is talking, walking, and relearned how to go potty.
William was declared in remission in November of 2016! Praise God!
God's WILL is our miracle!
After remission, William continued to receive occupational , physical, and speech therapies from
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to relearn and regain those abilities lost due to Posterior Fossa Syndrome, radiation, and chemotherapy.
William has permanent hair loss from radiation and permanent hearing loss from chemotherapy, stunted growth from radiation, Scoliosis, Kyphosis, and nerve damage in both of his feet. He doesn't let it get him down; he still enjoys playing his trains, Toy Story, Batman, PJMasks, and loves being outside. He enjoys playing in his sandbox and taking time to stop and smell flowers and look up at the clouds. He is an old
soul.
Just before his 7th Birthday in June of 2019, during a routine MRI at St. Jude, a questionable spot was found in William's brain. He was rescanned in August to find out if it grew. It did, so in September of 2019, William underwent two brain surgeries to remove a tumor that was found on a routine MRI at St. Jude. During surgery, the Neurosurgeon said he saw another spot of Medulloblastoma in William's brain. It was not removed, and they will not go back in to get it out.
Pathology confirmed our greatest fear that Medulloblastoma, the exact same cancer and strain, has returned.
William is currently on a 2 year trail at St. Jude that consists of outpatient chemotherapies. As of, July 12th, 2021, Will is on his last cycle of this trail.
He is a warrior! William was given 2-6 months to live but God! Here we are almost two years later and Will is still fighting! He’s been fighting an uphill battle
since he was three years old!
There is not a man known cure for Medulloblastoma relapse. We are buying time with our son as a family.
A GoFundMe has been set up to ease the financial burden of cost of living, the parents time away from work, COBRA payments, William's bucket list, and funeral arrangements. Please help us create lifelong memories; no amount is too small.
His cancer sits in God's hands.
