Help William Burton recover and get home
Donation protected
Hello everyone, my name is Nathan Burton and I am organizing this fundraiser for my father, William Burton.
On September 21, 2023, my dad sustained severe injuries during a motorcycle accident in rural Virginia. He and I were traveling on a bucket-list trip that we had been planning for years. He was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he underwent several surgeries and received critical care in the ICU. His injuries include a fractured pelvis, femur, clavicle, and ribs, multiple spinal fractures, brain bleeds, collapsed lung, muscle/ligament damage to his knee as well as damage to his urinary tract. Despite these extensive injuries, he has shown progress and after several weeks in the hospital, has been transferred to a local rehabilitation facility where he will continue to heal and receive therapy.
His wife, Deb, and I are renting an apartment in the area until we are able to transfer William home to Vermont. While we are fortunate that his insurance is expected to cover the majority of the medical bills, there are a plethora of expenses that we must swallow such as living expenses, transportation to follow-up appointments/surgeries, and the monumental cost to eventually transport him over 700 miles home. Additional unknown expenses include future surgeries, medications, handicap aids, and the potential need for additional rehabilitation once insurance coverage runs out.
While we do not yet know exactly how much all of this is going to cost, the expenses are already starting to mount, and we have decided to ask for your help.
If you know William, then you know that his health and vitality meant everything to him. As a passionate outdoor enthusiast with a deep connection to nature, his time spent walking, hiking, canoeing, biking, and skiing was when he was happiest and most himself.
It is never easy to ask for help, but any and all support will make a difference. While my father's recovery is going to be long and difficult, we are hopeful that he can overcome this immense challenge and return to a modified lifestyle that will continue to bring him joy.
