Let me start by telling you a little about Austin. Austin is by blood my cousin, but whenever someone ask me who he is, I tell them he is my brother. We have been raised together, and he has always been and will always be my best friend. If you are ever in need of cheering up, he is the one that you go to, hes one of the very few people who can make me laugh when i want to cry. He is the one that you can count on no matter what, he has definitely been a rock in our family. And, I think that anyone who knows Austin will tell you how strong his work ethic is. He is the one that will pick up shifts for co-workers in need, or come into work on his day off. He started the Culinary business when he was 18 years old at The Jackson Yacht Club, he then went on to be Line cook at Ruths Chris, and now at at 24 years old, he is the Lead Cook at Reunion Golf and Country Club.
So about a month ago, Austin went to the doctor because he had a lump in his neck, we weren't thinking it was going to be anything serious. A week later, Austin gets the phone call that he has cancer. We weren't given many details at first, all we knew was that it was a rare cancer and more test were needed to come to a more definitive conclusion. There were several endocrinologist and oncologist looking over the test Austin had already had done, while waiting for the next test to be run.
Last week we get a call from one of the doctors. We are told that he has what is called Medullary Thyroid Cancer, which is extremely rare, especially for someone his age. He then went in for more blood work and test, since we knew a little more about what we were working with.
Today Austin went in to get the results of the test from last week. He has officially been diagnosed with Stage 3 Medullary Thyroid Cancer, in his case, this means that the cancer has spread to all of the Lymph Nodes in his neck. He now has a Surgery scheduled to remove his Thyroid and all of the Lymph nodes in his neck at the end of this month. We are hoping that this will take out most if not all of the Cancer, but we wont know until after the surgery.
With all this being said, we do not know how much time off of work Austin will have to take, but we all know that even one missed day for a healthy person can make things financially difficult. I just want to do anything i can to take any worries off of him, even if its just a little. The key to beating Cancer is a positive stress-free environment, so I am going to do everything in my power to create that for him. If you would like to help, you could donate(any amount is extremely helpful), or just simply share this page and get the word out, anything and everything things means the world to both him and his family. Thank you in advance.
I will also post updates as we get them.
