Help Will and Jauron get to Grand Rapids!

Donation protected
Hello everyone! My name is Maritza Garibay and I have had the pleasure of being William Hill III and Jauron Perry's music teacher at Detroit School of Arts. These phenomenal musicians have won positions in the 2022 MSBOA All-State Jazz Ensemble and I would like to raise funds to send these two amazing students to Grand Rapids in January. My hope is to provide each student with $1000 to cover travel expenses and registration fees.

*This fundraiser is not in any way affiliated with Detroit Public Schools Community District or Detroit School of Arts. This is a private fundraiser for my two amazing students who deserve the moon, the sun, AND the stars!

Jauron Perry is an upcoming jazz trumpeter from Detroit who is deeply in love with the tradition and culture of jazz. That love greatly manifested from the musicianship brought to him at Detroit School of Arts. Serving as a bandleader, developing composer, and youth mentor to younger students and fellow musicians. He is drawn to the kind of courage and vulnerability one must have to create in an instant and genuinely enjoys the display of artistry and technique used to execute with excellence and precision in the art form of jazz.
Perry has performed at the Detroit Jazz Festival, African World Festival, Cliff Bells, Lansing Jazz Festival, Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe, Aretha Jazz Cafe, Andy’s Jazz Club Chicago & The Henry Ford Greenfield Village for the Salute to America. He is a member of the Michigan State Community Music School Big Band ensemble (2019-Present), Youth Combo (2016-2019), the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Civic Jazz Orchestra (2019-Present). At Detroit School Arts, he is presently a member of the Jazz Band, Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra. Perry has also participated in Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in 2019 the Jazz at Lincoln Center Summer Jazz Academy 2020.

William Hill III is a musician, arranger, and composer from Detroit, Michigan. He is currently a senior at Detroit School of Arts High School. Though classically trained, jazz is his first love. Currently, Hill is a member of the Michigan State University Youth Spartan Jazz program and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Youth Civic Jazz Orchestra. Hill has attended Interlochen Center for the Arts in 2017 and 2018, the Jr. Jazz Academy at Lincoln Center in 2018, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp 2019, Fordham University & Jazz at Lincoln Center Summer Jazz Workshop 2019, Jazz House Kids 2019 and 2020, and the Motown Lyric Project 2021.
Hill was the NAACP ACT-SO Gold Medal winner in 2019 in the Instrumental Contemporary category and National Young Arts Foundation Merit recipient for 2020 and 2021. Hill has also been awarded the Bertha Gordy Foundation Scholarship in 2017, Michigan State University Seymour Simon Scholarship in 2018, and the West Virginia University 1st Place for Jazz in 2018. Other endeavors that Hill had the pleasure in participating in are the Detroit Music Festival 2018, the Governor’s Inaugural Ball for the state of Michigan in 2019, the Detroit International Jazz Festival 2019, the Montclair Jazz Festival 2019, and was featured in the 2021 issue of BLAC Magazine’s Summer Jazz Series. Hill’s foremost goal in life as a musician is to bring others joy to others through music.
