2025 Wildlife Fundraiser
Thanks again to all who donated towards the care of the baby quail, bunnies, and squirrels last season.

This season, 2025, has been not quite as insane as last season, but we still have quite a few hungry little squirrels, bunnies, and a few quail.
We did not see as many quail this season. I have no idea why and wonder if it was due to such a dry winter.
We have several little bun buns. One baby bun came in with a shattered left front leg just down from the shoulder. It has been splinted and I am hoping for the best. This little bun receives her medication every day, which consists of an anti-inflammatory/pain med and antibiotic. Pray for this little one that her leg heals well enough so she can run and play soon with other bunnies.

We have a few less squirrels this season, but we still have 11 running around.
Last season there were 19 babies plus some others. They are considered teenagers now and always into trouble. Seriously, you have no idea what rambunctious little stinkers they are and always full of energy and hungry.
We also have one baby Round Tail Squirrel. She is just absolutely precious!
Some wonderful people up off the I-17 just south of Anthem area brought us 6 baby rock squirrels. Unfortunately, he watched the mother get picked up by a hawk and soon after 6 dependent babies came looking for mom to feed them. They were so lucky the owner of this property loves all animals and brought the babies to me as soon as they were all rounded up.
Two other babies, in pretty rough shape, came in from an area near the canal in the Scottsdale area. They had been more challenging to capture because they were absolutely terrified. The people who found the youngsters in their backyard had no idea what could have happened to the mother but did everything they could to get as many of the babies as they could. Out of the four they originally had seen, only two made it to safety. Bless those people for all of their efforts.

Also, unfortunately, this season we do not have access to our bunny release area. If anyone is interested in setting up a soft release area for bunnies on their property, please reach out. Property with plenty of trees and bushes, access to fresh water is ideal. We usually do a soft release where the buns are brought in the late afternoon the night before, set up in release cages, fed with kibble and fresh greens, spend the night and then the cages are opened early the next morning. The bunnies continue to be fed for as long as they keep coming back needing food (usually a week or two). By providing a soft release, it gives the bunnies a chance to settle and get a little familiar with their new surroundings before being released. It also gives the other animals in the area a chance to accept the newcomers without running them off. Bunnies do fight for territory so we try very hard to minimize the stress and give a little introduction.

We order fresh full leaf romaine and Arcadian harvest lettuce from a wholesale company here in town and it is delivered, if not once a week, sometimes twice a week for the Arcadian harvest. The squirrels eat a lot of fresh veggies too, so I just purchase that at the grocery store. It does get expensive but with veggies, it is easier to go purchase them here nearby versus trying to find salvaged veggies from other sources. Additionally, there are only certain veggies that are good and healthy for the bunnies and squirrels.

Either way, we get by. However, we would certainly appreciate any assistance from you all, that is possible.
These guys take hours and hours of care each day, from going grocery shopping, cutting and preparing food, to changing their sand litter boxes or potty pads and hay for the bunnies.
Yes, that is another expense. We buy play sand from Tractor Supply to use for the squirrel litter boxes. By using sand litter boxes, their waste is so easy to clean up. All I have to do is go change out the sand in the metal litter box and it is done. That is 12 big litter boxes though; we go through a lot of sand.

Thank you again for the help last season, and I thank you in advance now for any and all assistance you all are so gracious with this season.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Your support also helps us keep the website open so people who are searching for help can find a rescue easily.
