Help Wildland Firefighter, Devon, with Recovery.
This is Devon Rubenstein, a student and up and coming wildland firefighter with my husband, Danny Atkinson, at Trapper Creek.
On Sunday, July 18, while responding to a wildland fire he had a seizure. He was airlifted to a helibase from the fire and had more seizures before life flight could tie in with him. Once life flight arrived he was put into a medically induced coma and flown to Missoula where he was in the ICU Sunday night. He was woke up on Monday and responsive, feeding himself jello. Monday night he had more seizures and more testing. Today, Wednesday, thank God, he is now out of the ICU but still not up to full strength. Unfortunately doctors cannot pinpoint a cause for the seizures so as of now it remains a mystery.
Needless to say, this young man has a battle in front of him to get back to full speed. He will not be fighting fire in the foreseeable future which is what he was counting on for money to start his life after Job Corps.
Funds generated from this campaign will assist with expenses during recovery and to help Devon get on his feet after missing out on the rest of fire season.
The Wildland Firefighter Foundation has been amazing in their response and support for Devon’s family. Their mission is to take all financial burdens off the family of wildland firefighters during these type of events, and they do an amazing job. If you are looking for another worthy cause to donate to, I recommend them 100%.
Most of all, please pray for continued strength and medical answers for Devon.
God bless,
Amy Atkinson
