Help Whole in the Wall Survive Eliot’s Medical Challenge

When it comes to healthy, delicious, often organic, and locally sourced foods in Binghamton, NY, the Whole in the Wall Restaurant has been that place since 1980. Some might call us ahead of our time.

The first and for many years, the only restaurant in Broome County to be non- smoking, 23 years before it became the law. Eliot likes to say we were buying “local” before it was spelled with a capital L! We have been farm to table for 44 years because it was healthy and it made sense.

We earned a national humanitarian award for our Stone Soup project, a unique new concept in food reclamation, named after the children's story, that we've run for over 30 years. To date, we've donated over 100 000 meals to the hungry.

Whole in the Wall handcrafts 8 varieties of “The Best Pesto in the Universe”, available in 125 stores in 19 states and nationwide through our online store, right in our restaurant kitchen. We’ve made dinner for everyone from Bob Dylan to Tom Petty, Stevie Wonder, Kenny G and many more.

We survived a fire, three floods, economic bubbles and downturns, Covid and competition from chains.

The Saturday before Thanksgiving, Eliot slipped on a wet step and completely tore a muscle in his right shoulder. We’ve been getting by as best we can with limited use of Eliot’s right shoulder. The only way to fix his shoulder is with surgery. The surgeon has said it will be 2 months before he will be able to work again. That means the Whole in the Wall restaurant will need to close for 2 months.
