Help Whittney Avoid Eviction and Find a New Home

Hello,

My name is Whittney, I am a 29 year old Puerto Rican mix LGBTQ+ individual who also dabbles in art.

This is honestly my first time ever reaching out like this for anything, and while my anxiety is spiking whilst typing this all out and I am having second guesses, I have no other options.
To put it simple I need help with rent and trying to get out from the apartment that my partner and I currently live in.

2024 as a whole has been a rocky roller coaster. Ever since my partner was let go from their job in late 2023, I had been the main breadwinner of our household working 40 hours a week at my main job whilst doing freelance commissions on the side, yet still not making enough to cover for the two of us. While they filed for unemployment and began to search for a new job, I did everything that I could think of to make ends meet. I tried different loans, grants, taking extra commissions, and even withdrew my 401k that I had been working hard on.

While this helped us float for some time, we have slowly been sinking. Our state's infrastructure for unemployment had not been updated since the pandemic, and thus we were months behind on them receiving anything. During all of this, we were late on our rent multiple times, once to the point that the apartment that we are currently in began the eviction process without informing us. We managed to avoid this by the skin of our teeth due to me withdrawing the 401k I mentioned before.

To make matters worse, in the middle of March I found myself let go from the job that had been keeping us somewhat stable right before I was supposed to get a bonus that they then denied me due to no longer being employed with them. Within the month that I was without a job, I managed to utilize the money I made from my commissions to pay for what we needed, but knew that it was only a matter of time till the worse would happen. While there was some light at the tunnel when my partner and I started receiving our unemployment, it only lasted for a short period of time as we both managed to find a job at the same place.

While at first the job was splendid and there was a promise for decent hours that I could balance with my freelance work, things have gone south due to many factors. I went from 24 hours a week, to 16, to now I am only getting 10 at best. The same happened with my partner. We had been assured during the hiring process that we would get the hours that we asked for, but that has not happened. I am in the midst of looking for a new job potentially, but I do not have high hopes given that this job was the only one to contact me over the dozens that I applied for through Indeed, Poached, and Upwork.

The current cost of the apartment we live in is $1691 + 12 for insurance + $153 utilities which brings the total all together to $1856 before any late fees are applied.
We now find ourselves once again receiving a notice of what we owe with no means of paying it off.

We have no family to rely on, no friends that could let us crash with them if worst comes to worse, we are all we have which is why I am now reaching out in the hopes that someone might see this and be able to help us avoid eviction. The funds from this will not only go to rent + utilities, but to hopefully cover rent for our remaining time in this apartment. If we could break the lease now to find a place much more affordable we would.

If you are unable to help monetary wise, please share this with those you feel might be able to.
Thank you for reading if you have gotten this far and for your support.
