In seventh grade, Whitney was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right leg. To treat this, she had a major surgery that removed a bone tumor and replaced bone with titanium pieces. While this surgery was essential in treating her cancer, it also has caused many other problems and has led to five more surgeries over the years.
Over the past 29 years, Whitney has been tougher than tough. She's graduated college, worked in Hollywood, and built her own business. She married the love of her life and gave birth to two amazing boys.
With these amazing accomplishments under her belt, Whitney no longer wanted to be held back by her right leg. The reality was her leg was filled with metal, scar tissue, and a lot of pain. It did not have enough mobility and held her back daily from living the life she wants to live. Surgical attempts to fix problems had not been successful, and each unsuccessful attempt limited options for her future. After looking at all of her options, she made the gutsy choice to have her right leg amputated.
On July 31, Whitney had rotationplasty surgery to amputate her leg. Our first phase of this campaign was to earn enough money to help her travel to Utah to work with a surgeon with a lot of experience with osteosarcoma patients. We thought that after a few months of healing, she would start the process of getting a prosthetic.
Unfortunately in September, she developed a major infection that had the potential to spread to sepsis and end her life. Thanks to your generous donations, Brent was able to spend a week in the ICU with Whitney in California before they both traveled back to Utah for another attempt at surgery.
So as of November and December 2024, we are still looking for donations to financially support to help her entire family through this big transition. Money donated prior to Thanksgiving is being used to pay for travel expenses to and from hospitals in California and Utah, childcare, and daily expenses as Whitney and Brent can take time off work to recover. Money donated after Thanksgiving will be used for travel expenses to Orange County, where Whitney will begin the process of getting fitted for a new prosthetic leg. We are 80% of the way to our goal, and we would love your continued support to reach that final leg of the journey (pun intended). We know you love all four of them (they are awesome, duh), so thank you!!!
