Hello everyone,
My name is Winthrope Wellington, and I’m one of the owners of Travellers Beach Resort, a family-owned hotel in Negril, Jamaica that I run alongside my two brothers. I’m reaching out today with a heavy heart, but also with hope. Our Travellers family has been deeply affected by Hurricane Melissa, the most powerful hurricane to ever hit Jamaica.
This campaign is to help members of our Travellers Beach Resort staff whose homes have been severely damaged or completely destroyed. Some have lost their roofs, others their entire homes; everything they’ve worked so hard to build. These are the same team members who have spent years welcoming guests from all over the world with warmth, kindness, and that authentic Jamaican hospitality that defines us.
The Situation
Hurricane Melissa has left devastation across Jamaica, especially here in the west. It has been unlike anything we’ve ever seen. The destruction to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods is staggering, and the recovery ahead will be long and difficult.
Despite everything, our team’s resilience has been nothing short of inspiring. Even while facing personal loss, they’ve come together to help each other. It’s a true reflection of the spirit of Jamaica. Unity, strength, and love in the face of hardship.
What We’ve Done So Far
Since the day after the storm, we’ve been on the ground checking in with every team member going to their communities and their homes, delivering food, water, and emergency supplies. We’ve also have been purchasing building materials and have deployed our Travellers maintenance and construction team to help rebuild homes for those most affected.
We didn’t wait for donations or outside help. The need was immediate, and we knew we had to act. This fundraiser will allow us to continue and expand those efforts, reaching even more families in need.
How the Funds Will Be Used
The first priority will be to rebuild homes for Travellers Beach Resort staff who have lost everything. Once our team members are back on their feet, any remaining funds will go toward helping other families in Negril and surrounding communities in Westmoreland who we personally know have been impacted by the hurricane.
Every dollar raised will go directly to these rebuilding efforts, purchasing materials, assisting with labor, and restoring hope for families who have lost so much.
Why This Matters
Our staff are more than employees they’re family. Many of them have been with us for decades, helping shape Travellers into what it is today. To see their homes torn apart has been heartbreaking, but their strength and courage through it all have reminded me why we do what we do.
They’ve shown up for our guests time and time again. Now, it’s our turn to show up for them.
A Message of Hope
I know times are tough for many, but if you’re able to give, even a small amount, it will go a long way in helping rebuild lives here in Negril and Westmoreland at large. Your support means more than you can imagine. Not just in materials and money, but in reminding our community that they’re not alone.
Jamaica has always been defined by resilience, unity, and heart. Together, we will rebuild stronger than before and continue to shine as a symbol of what’s possible when we look out for one another.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for standing with us.
With gratitude,
Winthrope Wellington
