The West Orange High School Chess Team has made history by becoming the 2025 New Jersey state grade champions in the Senior division. Our achievement was recognized by the West Orange Board of Education at their December meeting. For the past five years this team has increased its competitive stature as a result of former team captain Andrew Chan's leadership and incredible hard work, our connection to the West Orange Chess Club, and the commitment and skill of current team members. We are now determined to compete at the National Championships in Chicago this March. This is the first time in our school’s history that a team will represent West Orange High School at the K12 National Championship, and it’s a moment we will never forget.

For our seniors, this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime event. They have spent years honing their chess skills, practicing countless hours, and supporting each other through every match. Competing at Nationals is not just about the games—it’s about representing our school, making lasting memories, and inspiring other students in our community to pursue their passion for chess. We are raising funds to cover essential expenses like plane tickets, tournament fees, hotel costs, and food, so that every member of our team can participate in this unforgettable experience.
