Update 6/15 3:57pm- we are finally home for now ❤️
Update 6/15 12:01pm- Going to pick him up here in the next hour. Levels are still up. BUN is 63 (range is 14-36), Creatinine is 4 (range is .6-2.4). So they’ll teach me how to give him fluids under the skin for at home. And then they want me to follow up with the vet in a week. Continue praying and sending good vibes for our boy please and share share share. ❤️
update 6/14 1:16pm- Wesley’s values went down only a tad. But not enough to go home. So they’re keeping him another night he’s peeing on his own since being sedated but still unsure why he wouldn’t go on his own.
update 6/14 7:07AM- I missed a call at 12:21am. Wesley wasn’t wanting to urinate so his bladder became very full and painful. They couldn’t get a catheter in due to the opening of his penis being so tiny. So they had to sedate him. They got the urine out. Now to see if he’ll urinate on his own, other wise possible surgery.
update 6/13 5pm- Wesley’s ultrasound does show kidney stones and kidney disease.
update 6/13 10:57AM- Wesley still isn’t eating. His levels have got done a tad. The ultrasound tech is there now. They’ll do an ultrasound on his kidneys to confirm the significance of the infection and/or disease. I will update later with results. He still has his heart murmur that has appeared since his last vet visit in march. Because it’s a grade 4 out of 6, they recommend us seeing a cardiologist after discharge potential underlying heart disease.
As many of you know, my love for cats is… well, a lot. But my love for WES??? Endless. He's not just a cat. He’s my best friend. He’s my first baby, before my baby babies. I rescued him when I was in a low spot in my life. Registered him as my emotional support animal. He’s traveled with me everywhere I’ve moved. He’s my soulmate in a cat.
Unfortunately, Wesley is prone to UTI’s. Which if untreated or severe enough, can lead to Kidney failure/ Kidney infection.
The last couple months, he hasn’t been eating as much, not as cuddly and purring (which if you know Wes, you know he’s hugggge on cuddling), just not acting himself and has lost 3 pounds.. which I didn’t realize until Andrew really pointed it out to me.
I took him in yesterday for a check up and labs. Waited for results today. The doctor called this morning and informed me that Wesley’s blood work shows severe kidney failure and a severe UTI (which is wild because he’s had zero inappropriate urination like he has in the past when he’s had UTI’s). I’m hoping the kidney injury is due to the uti but we have to wait and see. But also a significant possibility of kidney disease. He is currently at the ER Vet in gig harbor for the next 36-48 hours on fluids and being monitored. He has to have a longer stay for a slower fluid process due to just finding out he has a grade 4 heart murmur. Fluids, hospitalization, labs, ultrasound.. it’s not freaking cheap. I absolutely hate asking for help.. but he needs it. And I’m willing to reach out under these circumstances because I’m just not ready to lose him. He has so much life and love left. Ugh. My heart is hurting, my anxiety through the roof and my mind won’t stop wondering with the “what ifs”..
as I receive more updates, I will post here.
In the meantime, if you can donate, I will be forever thankful.. if you can’t, please please share and I will be forever thankful for that as well. ILY guys ❤️
