Hi! Our names are Wes (also called Klon, they/them) and YaYa (they/them) and we are artists in Brooklyn.
After being evicted in late January and were forced to temporarily relocate to Atlanta and stay with family while we attempt to accrue funds for our return. We have a lot of long term medical bills and storage costs we are paying off, and as we are still looking for work, we’re cutting deep into our limited savings for living costs. YaYa is in dire need of a surgery to remove a painful and dangerous fibroid, but the surgeon that takes their insurance is in New York. They’ve had to postpone their surgery for months and their pain is making it hard to get through each day.
We lived lived in the NYC metro area for about a decade and in that time we fostered truly irreplaceable community and found family whom we miss dearly. I (Wes) am a drag and theatre artist and have a lot of big gigs coming up this spring, summer, and fall, for which I would need to be in New York to participate in. YaYa is a poet and home care aid who was just starting their journey into herbalism and overall (black elder-centered) holistic health care.
While the time away from New York has been a MUCH needed reprieve from the rather traumatic last few months (as well as the abrupt nature of our exit) we want to return to the place we’ve made our home. We are asking for help with savings as we look for work to further help us afford being able to return. We’re eternally grateful for any donations or shares!
