Wendy is my firstborn daughter, and her journey over the past two years has been nothing short of miraculous. Two years ago, Wendy suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and was without a heartbeat for over eight minutes on the way to the emergency room. Against all odds, she was revived and spent a week in a coma. Since then, Wendy has shown incredible determination and strength. She can now move, think clearly, and is working hard every day to walk again and speak more clearly. With the help of a walker, she is able to get back and forth to the bathroom on her own, and her progress has been inspiring to everyone who knows her.
Despite these achievements, Wendy still faces significant challenges. She no longer receives physical therapy because of Medicare limitations, and the cost for private therapy and speech therapy is a significant expense that she must pay out of pocket. Wendy is determined to speak clearly again and continue her progress, but these therapies are essential for her recovery. Her current living situation in a second-floor apartment makes it difficult for her to get outside and enjoy life, as she relies on others for help. An electric wheelchair would give her the freedom to join friends for outings, sit comfortably at restaurants, and navigate her environment with greater ease. We are also hoping to help her find a first-floor apartment so she can have more independence. Wendy’s daughter and a nurse visit regularly, but she has been prescribed 24/7 care, which we have not been able to secure yet.
Wendy has made amazing progress, going from being in a coma to sitting up, using a walker, and working tirelessly to improve her speech. Her goal is to be understood by everyone, not just those familiar with her speech impediment. Any support you can offer will help Wendy continue her journey toward independence and a better quality of life. Thank you for considering a donation to help Wendy—your kindness will make a real difference.
