Help Wendi Rebuild Butterbug's Baked Goods

Hi, I'm Wendi Williams from Butterbug's Baked Goods. Butterbug's is a small micro-bakery located in Asheville/Woodfin, North Carolina.

I make preservative-free, made-from-scratch cupcakes, desserts and wedding cakes for private individuals, as well as make all the desserts for Nine Mile Restaurants. I take a lot of pride in making my desserts like I was taught by my Mom at 6 years old....without box mixes and using real, top quality ingredients made with a lot of love!

Like so many in our area, on September 28th, 2024, my business lost water and power.

Unfortunately, I was unable to save any of the finished products or ingredients in my refrigerators and freezers. This was a huge blow since all of my house-made fresh fruit purees and yummy buttercreams I made to try and get ahead had to be thrown out along with all of my regular refrigerated ingredients. Sadly, I was told my insurance policy doesn't cover this type of loss or loss of income. Gotta wonder why I have it sometimes, right?

Asking for help has never been a strong suit of mine; so, this is especially gut-wrenching for me to have to do a GoFundMe to recoup the loss of ingredients, refunds, and income. As we all know, the bills just keep coming in, no matter what. Between the ingredient and product loss, I've also lost all my wholesale clients and wedding orders during our area's busiest season. After covid and my health issues over the last 5 years I was finally getting back to making a little money until now.

I must admit that totaling up the numbers to get the conservative goal I am asking for made me sick to my stomach. However, with the encouragement of my amazing customers, friends, and family...here I am, asking for whatever you can spare to help get me out of this hole.

On the plus side, after 13 days, the power finally came back on yesterday. YAY! Thank you to all the workers at Duke Energy!

Still no water...but that is getting closer as well. As of today, they are still saying weeks for usable water. I'm waiting on the NC Agricultural Department, who inspects my industry, to put water usage guidelines in place. Next week for those guidelines... I hope.
